BURJ KHALIFA . DUBAI
ShowLED Hybrid Pixels cover a full façade of the tallest building in the world, launched during the New Year’s Eve Show 2015, at Burj Khalifa, Dubai. With an astonishing 33,000 m² surface and the highest LED at 750m well above sea level, visitors of Downtown Dubai witnessed the largest LED display ever constructed, both in surface area as in height. A record-breaking effort by the ShowLED team, having only five months from project confirmation till completion.
The giant LED display consisted of an impressive 51,000 ShowLED Hybrid pixels, all manually positioned by a team of 20 riggers. Using 75,000 in-house custom designed brackets, all pixels could be fixed without any form of material, like screws or adhesives that could damage the building façade.
ShowLED developed durable material composites withstanding all the extremes in building and environmental challenges, and having the highest grades of flame retardancy and UV resistance. But the star of this setup was the ShowLED Hybrid pixel and the unique software to map and control the pixel configuration. It’s certified waterproof, ultra-bright, energy efficient, cost effective… in short: Hybrid.
The impressive setup resulted in over 357,000 LEDs (7 LEDs per pixel), 645 power supplies, 70km of power/data cabling, 2km of fibre optic network cabling and 95 ShowLED Hybrid controllers.
